The staff was very friendly, and a ton of fun. The resort felt very safe for both us, and our children. We were traveling with another family of 4 and asked to be close to each other for the children, when this could not be done, we were upgraded to a suite, no extra charge. The staff at the Samba was simply put, amazing, from our check in to our check out, everything was near perfect. This was our first trip to Mexico, but will not be our last. The Hotel counts with 3 different category rooms: SUPERIOR ROOM (No balcony) BALCONY ROOM (With balcony-fridge and coffee machine) SUITE (a bigger room with balcony – 2 bathrooms –living room- fridge –coffee machine) each room with different prices according to the amanities they have. Good value if you are not hoping to get five star at this price, you are getting what you paid for and more! It is smaller and good if you don't like to be in a over crowded resort. Our room was clean and so was the rest of the resort. The hotel is older and in need of some upgrades, the air conditioner was noisy but we got use to it after a couple of days. If we were there two weeks instead of one we would find the buffet repetitive and book the a la carte restaurants. We did not even go to the a la carte restaurants. They are all friendly and helpful.We found that the buffet was typical but we always found something we liked. As most of the reviews go the beach is excellent, nice pool, lots of chairs and the number one thing is the great staff. People either love the Samba Vallarta or seem to hate it. This was our first trip to Puerto Vallarta with the direct flight out of Prince George and we will be doing it again! We read a lot of reviews before and after booking.
It is an older hotel and the staff do their best but more maintenance is needed on their bikes and their plumbing and air conditioning (and maybe mattresses if they are moldy). We will likely not return for we like to be able to walk into a town and this is too isolated and the respiratory issues are serious with the mold. The rest of our family (3 more rooms) did not seem to develop this problem. I see Holly C., reviewer, notes this issue too but I did not inspect the mattresses to see if they were moldy. We are older and developed a bad allergic reaction that has given us respiratory problems. Our family was scattered too and we were never offered a suite maybe they were too full. We did not have the experience of Bigmac 1967 and paid $35 extra a night for the balcony.
#Resort samba vallarta upgrade
We paid to upgrade to a balcony room so we could dry our swim suits as it is too humid to get any drying in rooms. Our big problem was the detectable mold smell coming from the air conditioners and rooms. I liked the aquafit program with its good instructor. The children's program is casual about timing and changing schedules which upset our grandkids but the staff were good at trying to accommodate them. The 3 grandchildren had fun in the children's program and loved the pools and boogie boarding (their parents did as well and also enjoyed the kayaks). The rooms and linen were very clean and maid service good although done very late in the day. Italian Restaurant was very elegant and the setting of the Mexicanos Restaurant is superb. The staff were great, especially Jorge and Ismael in the buffet. Taxis at 80 pesos each way or 260 pesos each way best options. The hotel is isolated and requires taking either two buses to Bucerias (30 minutes) or Puerto Vallarta (45 minutes). Great oceanfront location but sand is so sharp, it is hard to walk on.
